You’ve heard horror stories from your neighbor’s vacation, read terror stories in blogs and forums but we’re here to set the record straight. Arriving at the Cancun International Airport is much easier than you think. We’ll share some insider tips to make this a smooth landing and get you to your vacay spot as soon as possible.
1.- Conveyer belts
The best advice here is taking a little patience as a carry-on. As people make their way off the plane, your airline will be taking care of putting your belongings in conveyor belts. The plus side is that the Cancun Airport is very manageable and you should find your airline’s spot quickly. Be sure to take very colorful, easy-to-identify bags or add something that will help you spot your bags quickly. And just wait until they come to you.
2.- Customs
During your flight, you will receive a customs form which needs to be filled out before you land. After passing through immigration and collecting your bags, you will proceed to exit. Have the customs form and passport ready to present to customs officials. A member of your party will press a button on what looks like a traffic light. A green light means you’re set to go, red means an official will perform a quick, routine inspection.
3.- It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity
When getting off the air-conditioned airplane you will definitely feel a rush of heat. But don’t worry, it’s not the heat, it’s the humidity, which can go up to almost 95% in the summer months. Come prepared: wear layers of clothing for the trip so that you can take them off and end up with comfortable, light clothing when you arrive at Cancun. Take out your sunglasses and nifty hat for that “I’m finally in Cancun” Instagram Selfie.
4.- Walking past taxi and timeshare representatives
Upon your arrival, you will walk past taxi drivers and timeshare representatives. We recommend that you book your airport transfer prior to your arrival. Pre-booking will have the certainty and security that a trusted and reliable company will be serving you at the airport. When approached by taxi drivers and timeshare representatives we recommend to just keep walking straight, say “no gracias” and head for the terminal exit door. If you’ve booked an Amstar transfer with your vacation, one of our representatives will be waiting for you just past the crystal sliding terminal building doors.
5.- Where can I find the Amstar representative?
As you exit the terminal building, you will get to the transfer departures area, where an Amstar representative will be waiting for you. Your Amstar representative is easy to identify: just look for the smiling face and the blue-flowered Amstar uniform.
6.- Take your pick! Shuttle, private or deluxe transportation!
