Never visit La Romana. Ever. Amstar dmc’s very own Captain Cewil is back with more fun-filled tales of Dominican Republic adventures. In this post, he shares with you his 7 reasons not to visit La Romana. Really.
The Dominican Republic’s Tourism Ministry hit the nail on the head with their campaign “The Dominican Republic has it all.” It’s true. You can find everything here; from spectacular beaches to unforgettable mountain landscapes, we’ve got it. And one of the country’s most beautiful destinations to demonstrate this is La Romana. La Romana can basically be divided into two parts: Bayahibe and Playa Nueva Romana. Of the two, Bayahibe is the most famous.

Located just a few minutes away from La Romana International Airport, Bayahibe is home to some of the Dominican Republic’s most spectacular beaches. Although the meaning of the word is still unknown, the name Bayahibe derives from the original indigenous population that once inhabited the area. There are many all-inclusive hotels throughout the area, but the most important without a doubt is the impressive Dreams La Romana. The other area, known as Playa Nueva Romana, is strategically situated between the towns of La Romana and San Pedro de Macoris, which is where the hotel Grand Bahia Principe Romana is located. Yet while both areas are wonderful representations of why the Dominican Republic has it all, there are still reasons why you should not visit La Romana. Here are seven of them.
#1 You hate beautiful beaches
Yes, majestic palm trees reaching out to the sky, their massive green branches swaying in the tropical breeze, a still bay with smooth flowing waves that invitingly seduce you into their mesmerizing rhythm; the white sand reaching out to the azure waters of the Caribbean Sea. Enough to make anyone want to stay at home. So if you hate beautiful beaches, don’t visit La Romana! Or for that matter, nearby Saona Island.
#2 Sunsets are way too soppy
Who even likes watching the sun lowering over the horizon, creating a kaleidoscope of celestial colors as it sinks down into the Caribbean Sea? Boring!!! So if you hate sunsets, don’t visit La Romana!
#3 Friendly people make you angry

A genuine smile, a heartfelt how are you, the natural wrinkles that develop from turning that frown upside down, bah. Who wants to be said hello to anyway? So if you hate friendly people, don’t visit La Romana!
#4 You detest adventure
Sometimes even getting off the couch makes you feel like you are in some new James Bond movie, and that just goes too far. You prefer to sit at home, fusion your body with the couch and your mind with the television set, slowly disappearing into the nothingness of your existence. Kayaking in the Caribbean Sea, sailing aboard a catamaran and going on an Outback Safari? Pass the remote! So if you hate adventure, don’t visit La Romana!
#5 You love long airport transfers
Who’s in a hurry? You’ve just gone through waiting lines, security checks, cramped seating, more long lines and customs to finally make it outside the Punta Cana airport. So what’s the rush to get to the hotel? You could care less that getting to La Romana has never been easier, and that with an Amstar airport transfer you can be at your hotel in no time. So if you hate the fact that Amstar will get you to your hotel quickly and safely, don’t visit La Romana!
#6 Tropical nightlife ain’t your thing
Why learn to dance cha cha cha? What sense does it make to learn the seductive sway of bachata or the swirling spins and deft moves of salsa? Infectious rhythms, good vibes, beautiful people having a wonderful time as they light up the dance floor while moving their hips to the latest hits coming out of Latin America … Yawn. So if you hate tropical nightlife, don’t visit La Romana!
#7 You find historical sites to be so yesterday

Historical sites? Really? They didn’t even have iPhones back then! How did they even take a selfie? Can you imagine! All those old rocks just placed together to make a building hundreds of years ago when the Spanish invaders first arrived to what would become the Americas? What-ever… So if you hate the sight of historical sites, don’t visit La Romana!
And there you have it. So if you don’t like beautiful beaches, sunsets, friendly people, adventure, short airport transfers, tropical nightlife and historical sites, don’t visit La Romana! Otherwise, welcome to La Romana!
