Like many organizations, companies, businesses, and schools increased social distancing measures at home is a must to be safe.
For Amstar DMC, social distancing measures have meant implementing home office efforts in the 29 destinations where we have team members to prevent the spread of the virus and keep our amazing teams safe and sound. The entire Amstar family is patiently waiting and once travel is restored, we’ll be ready to meet up with our dearest customers with our signature friendly smile!
For many people, self-isolation and social distancing at home is a new experience, especially for those who are used to spending most of their time out of the house. Nevertheless, it’s important to always look on the bright side and channel our energy into productive, creative, and fun activities!
We’ve put together a list of activities you can do to keep yourself active and/or entertained until our normal day-to-day lives returns or at least until we can go out from home:
Try something new
We all have something in mind that we would love to practice, perfect, or even to learn something completely new, but we always have excuses like: “I don’t have enough time” or “I don’t know if I’ll be good at it.” But the reality is that if you don’t even try (at least once!) you’ll never know how difficult – or easy it is. The opportunity has come for you to “get back in the saddle” or try something new – no excuses! You’ve got some extra time on your side now – so just do it!
Move your body! Exercise is good for you!
Home office will have you sitting in the same position for a longer period since your daily routine has been drastically modified. Not hittin’ the gym, the park, or heading to your weekly Pilates and yoga classes can be stressful for some of us but not all is lost! Several athletes, activity instructors and dance teachers are sharing tailored routines online to be practiced at home without equipment or with things we all have in our house.
Search for the best routine and give it a try. It will help to keep you fit and maintain at least some of your ‘normal’ routine – and it’ll be fun!
Read or meditate
Read your favorite book, download an interesting story to your tablet or pick up that new novel with the interesting plot that’s been sitting on the shelf collecting dust! Reading can be a captivating experience and a truly relaxing activity that will have you focused on romance, mystery, drama or ancient history – and the topics are endless. Every home has books sitting on a bookshelf or hidden away in the closet, just begging to be read. Pick one and enjoy!
Meditation is a peaceful health and wellness activity that will help relax your body and calm your mind. Being cooped up at home for so many days can result in thoughts racing through your mind and meditation may be a great way to slow down and enjoy some peace and tranquility. All you need is a comfortable space, 3 to 5 minutes of your day and a focus on slowing down your breathing. You can download an app or search for quick meditation videos to get started!
Try cooking as a new hobby!
As Julia Child once said: “No one is born a great cook, one learns by doing.” Spending time at the center of the house – your kitchen – will be a truly fun and stimulating way to spend your social distancing days amongst delicious aromas, tasty food and hopefully, some first-time experiences. How many times have you thought about preparing something new in the kitchen, then finding all kinds of reasons not to! This is the ideal moment to display your inner Martha Stewart and try a recipe you have always wanted to do and enjoy these social distancing days at home with a really good meal or dessert!
At Amstar DMC we are balancing the social distancing period with home office duty and some of the activities mentioned above to stay ready for the moment when traveling will no longer be a dream but a reality once again!
Have you tried any of the activities mentioned while social distancing at home? Which ones did you enjoy the most?
