Puerto Morelos is a small, peaceful fishing town located halfway in between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. For those wanting the perfect spot for getting away from it all while still being able to visit the major towns for a day of shopping or a night of dancing, this Mexican Caribbean paradise is a great choice of destination. Recently, we spoke with a few Apple Vacations representatives from the beautiful Now Jade resort to ask their advice for activities and fun things to do when staying in Puerto Morelos. Here’s their response.
THINGS TO DO IN PUERTO MORELOS
Snorkeling Adventure
The Mexican Caribbean is famous for being a great spot to go snorkeling, and without a doubt one of the best places to do so in the entire region is located just off the coast of Puerto Morelos. This is one of our guests’ favorite tours because it’s fun and say for the entire family.
Visit Playa del Carmen
What was once a quaint fishing village much like Puerto Morelos is today a cosmopolitan beach destination and a choice destination for tourists and top brands alike. Stroll along Playa del Carmen’s beautiful 5th Avenue for some shopping or people watching and make sure you try at least one of the many fantastic restaurants that can be found both here as well as in the surrounding streets. If you’re looking for a beach party, head out to Playa Mamita’s and enjoy a few cold ones on the beach. You’ve earned it!
Selvatica’s Gimme All
Gimme All may sound like the title of a rock ballad or a Hollywood action movie, but in reality this is the name of one the region’s hottest tours. Spend a day at Selvatica and feed your inner-Tarzan on this fun-filled tour that will be a big hit for people of all ages.
Deep Sea Fishing
We’ve all been captivated by tales of the high sea and the adrenaline-inducing adventure of setting out to catch the big one. Well, not only can you fulfill your fantasy while on a trip to Puerto Morelos, but you can do so while navigating one of the world’s most beautifully azure waters: the Caribbean Sea.
Bicycle Tours
Most of Puerto Morelos’ top resorts such as Now Jade offer bicycle tours that take you on a guided exploration of the local area. Take a nice leisurely ride amid the mangroves and beaches, and visit the quaint town and friendly people of Puerto Morelos. Make sure you wear tennis shoes, a hat and apply lots of sunscreen before heading out.
Tulum Private Tour
Take a private expedition and visit the ancient city of Tulum. The ruins are the most popular archaeological site in the State of Quintana Roo. Tulum the only city built on the sea by the Mayas and one of the must do activities when visiting the Riviera Maya or Cancun. Rio Secreto
With almost no above ground rivers in the entire Yucatan Peninsula, beneath the surface lies an intricate maze of rivers, cenotes (sinkholes) and caves which the Maya considered to be the gate to the Netherworld. If you are looking for some awe-inspiring nature activities, it definitely doesn’t get much better than this underground adventure. Plus, the tour is well-organized, extremely fun and safe for the entire family. Tip: This is a great activity to do when it’s raining outside and pool and beach time are out of the question.
Explore the Nightlife
If Mexicans are generally known for their friendliness and hospitality, there’s one other trait that you will get to know on a visit to some of the region’s elite nightlife spots: they’re also great at throwing a party. Take a night off from the relaxing hotel scene and get your dance shoes on for an evening of fun and dancing at what is arguably Mexico’s most famous and fun venue: Coco Bongo.
