Puerto Vallarta has many things to entertain you, and it’s not only about whale watching, adventure tours, or pirate ship dinners. There’s also plenty to do by the sea at El Malecon. Our beautiful boardwalk is close to 1.2 miles long. It begins next to the Rosita hotel and ends at the amphitheater with the famous four arches.
There are different ways of enjoying and visiting El Malecon, from borrowing free kayaks and bikes to walking along the boardwalk and seeing the bronze figures along the way (you can actually join this tour every Tuesday morning for free!). There are also sand sculptures and figures made with balanced rocks, as well as artists sketching pencil portraits or making picturesque paintings.
El Malecon has a wide variety of establishments like restaurants and bars where you can enjoy beautiful sunsets sitting on a terrace. Jewelry shops, clothing stores, souvenir stands, and even the beautiful Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe are also along the boardwalk.
The best time to enjoy this walk is in the afternoon, when you can see breathtaking sunsets over the coast of Vallarta. The Papantla fliers make their ritual at that time too, and we can all see them fly upside down, with their arms spread wide open, coming down slowly but steadily until they touch the ground. Fireworks from a pirate ship and interesting characters spread around El Malecon astonishing the onlookers with their acting, like a sandman or a floating man, are also part of the entertainment you can find there.
The best part of El Malecon is definitely the Arches Amphitheater, which offers free shows every night. You can see street clowns, traditional Mexican dances, music, and an endless assortment of events in it. And of course, there are the many food stands where you’ll discover delicious local dishes and beautiful handicrafts.
