History of Doctor´s Cave Jamaica – How did it start?
The story began in 1906 when a prominent local doctor named Alexander James McCatty converted some of his beach property into a bathing club for his friends. A group of them, many of them doctors, would go down the stairs of the club early each morning, making their way into a small cave that opened onto the sea. In no time, the area became: Doctors Cave Beach. A decade or so later, a celebrated British osteopath visited the beach and published an article declaring “he was restored to good health after bathing.” He went on to write that the waters could cure several ailments and soon many other travelers claimed health benefits.
Doctor´s Cave Beach in Jamaica – Why is it worth visiting?
The Doctor´s Cave beach is 78-84 °F year round. White sands, and a beautiful and gently slope into an amazingly clear aqua sea. Even if those healing waters hold no special magic, one can easily understand why people think they do!
Thanks to a hurricane in 1932 the original Doctor’s cave is no longer there. The beach still provides the perfect prescription for stressed-out visitors.
If your Montego Bay vacation calls for some more intense waters, you could also go to the glittering waters of Dunn’s River Falls. Or you could take a relaxing cruise down the Black River.
