Huatulco night clubs, bars and cafés – Where to go?

Even though Huatulco is well-known for its laid-back atmosphere, it has many night clubs, bars, cafés and other entertainment options for all ages and music tastes.

Desires night club at the Dreams HuatulcoMost of the all-inclusive hotels offer night shows, beach parties and contests for their guests. The Secrets and Dreams hotels’ entertainment teams even offer interpretations of popular shows and musicals such as Cats or Grease and have their own version of the Huatulco Idol. The dancers and singers of the Barcelo hotel have fun performances with a Latin twist. There are even night clubs in some hotels, like the Desires lounge at the Dreams Huatulco, which can get very crowded during the high season.

But surely, you know Huatulco is not just about all-inclusive hotels! Nightlife in downtown Huatulco is varied and as up-beat as you want it to be. There are several options where you can have a blast:

La Papaya night club in HuatulcoLa Papaya

The trendiest night club in town, normally busy on Fridays and Saturdays, is where the locals meet and mix with the tourists, which creates a nice international atmosphere. The music selection ranges from Spanish rock from the ‘80s and ‘90s, to reggaeton, to club and commercial house music.

La Crema

Very famous for its wood fire pizza, this place is part of the history of the Bays of Huatulco. It offers smooth lighting and a laid-back atmosphere, reminiscent of the hippie-style charm of the nearby town of Zipolite. The music covers several genres, always with great taste from the DJ, AXL, including roots reggae, dub, ska, trip hop and a fine selection of connoisseur songs and groups from the seventies. La Crema also holds live music concerts on some weekends. Mind you, it gets very crowded during the wintertime.

Hemingway's Cantina - night club HuatulcoHemingway’s Cantina

A few blocks away from the main square you’ll find Hemingway’s Cantina. It is a wonderful option for a couple of drinks before hitting the night club. It has a nice tropical atmosphere and excellent mojitos!

Casa Mayor

This place is located in the main square, on a second floor, right under the shade of a humongous Mango tree. Casa Mayor opens early in the morning as a cafeteria (the owners have been coffee growers for generations). However, during the night, it is a very enjoyable place for dinner, coffee, or a drink with the background of acoustic live music and the best sight of the main square. Plus, classic romantic Mexican music is the cornerstone of the program every night, making Casa Mayor just perfect for couples celebrating anniversaries and honeymoons.

Apart from the bars and night clubs, Huatulco features a cinema where you can catch current movies, and at the main square, it is not uncommon to find some live music or an exposition of books or regional products. Whether you’re aiming for a crazy night out, a relaxed drink with your friends, or a calm evening in town, you’ll always find something interesting and fun to entertain yourself in Huatulco!
