The International Beer Fest in Puerto Morelos

An International Beer Fest will be held this weekend in Puerto Morelos and we couldn’t be any happier. Approximately 150 local, national and international breweries will be represented. Live music, workshops and tastings will accompany this two day event in the Mexican Caribbean.

Mexico’s beloved International Beer Fest Soy Cerveza is back for another round, this time in the beautiful Puerto Morelos. The festival, which will be celebrating its third consecutive edition, promises to be even bigger and better this year.

Beginning on Saturday, November 27, 2014, the International Beer Fest will be featuring a variety of workshops, tastings and beer pairings as well as a full cultural program of live music and art.

Almost 150 different microbreweries will be participating in this inebriating festive event, 8 of whom come from the Yucatan Peninsula as well as 35 to 40 national and over 100 international makers of fine suds.

As with many a good notion, the idea for the International Beer Fest was born in a bar.

“We wanted to promote the culture of beer in a very relaxed and family-friendly environment,” said Luis Solis, one of the event’s main organizers.

In fact, the International Beer Festival Soy Cerveza has grown with each edition, and this year looks to continue that trend.

“The first year in Playa del Carmen we expected about 1,500 people, and 5,000 turned out. The second year we did the festival in Acapulco and planned for about 4,000; around 7,500 showed up. This year we are expecting about 5,000 people to attend the festival,” added Solis.

This year’s location of Puerto Morelos seems like a match made in beer heaven. Located almost halfway between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos has maintained the region’s laid-back nature and small town vibe amid the rapid growth of Cancun and other parts of the Riviera Maya. With beautiful beaches, friendly people and an ideal distance from two major cities, Puerto Morelos looks set to be the perfect host for the festival.

To facilitate transportation between the Cancun and Playa del Carmen to and from the event, festival organizers have made arrangements with the region’s main bus line ADO to provide more frequent service.  In addition, a designated driver program has been set up to make sure that people return home just as safely as they arrived to the event.

So get ready, beer lovers, for this inebriating gift to the Mexican Caribbean.

In the meanwhile, wet your thirst for more information by checking out the festival’s website www.soycerveza.com (only in Spanish) or ask your hotel’s concierge for the nitty-gritty on this great addition to the cultural scene of Cancun and the Riviera Maya. And if you’re in the area anyway, we recommend you go on some adventures, too, such as a visit to the enigmatic Rio Secreto or a relaxing half-day of snorkeling at the Mesoamerican Reef!

Cheers!
