Negril, Jamaica, is considered to be the island’s major beach resort area and is known as the “Capital of Casual” for a good reason. Laid back, friendly, and easily accessible, natural Negril has something for everyone. The city is located on the westernmost tip of the island, the sunset side of Jamaica. The weather is subtropical, with daytime temperature of 85 °F most of the year.
The Negril Marine Park (NMP) was declared a marine protected area (MPA) in 1998. It comprises around 62 square miles of coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves, beaches, and cliffs at the western end of Jamaica. This area is the marine component of the larger Negril Environmental Protection Area (EPA) that includes five watersheds and a major wetland (the Great Morass). A section of the Marine Park is where the movie “2000 Leagues Under the Sea” was filmed, back in 1954.

The Caribbean Sea in its palette of turquoise is warm, calm, transparent, and perfect for all water sports. Booby Cay, just off the mainland, is an ideal island for picnics, exploring, and snorkeling excursions. You can snorkel right off the cliffs in the secluded coves or just lie back and watch the incredible natural Negril sunsets.
Negril boasts the famous Rick’s Cafe that sits on top of the cliffs at Negril’s West End. The best time to be at Rick’s is at sunset when you can watch the sun disappear into the sea while you listen to live reggae music.

I experienced the magic of the Reggae Sunset Cruise, one of the Caribbean’s most wet ‘n’ wild adventures full of delectable appetizers, exotic cocktails, and the best panoramic views you’ll ever set your eyes upon! We swayed to the rhythms of reggae music, new and old, while learning the latest island dance moves and enjoying a catamaran cocktail. There’s nothing quite like this ‘club on water’ to feel the pulse of the island vibes and see the wonders of the Caribbean. We cruised along the coastline, snorkeled in the marine park, and experienced one of the best sunsets on the island.
